From Raw Steel to Finished Watch: The Superclone Manufacturing Process
Top superclone factories (Clean, ZF, VS, BT, PPF) operate with equipment and processes that would be recognizable to anyone who’s toured a legitimate Swiss watch factory. Here’s how a premium superclone is made.
Step 1: Case Manufacturing
Raw 904L Oystersteel (or 316L for non-Rolex brands) arrives as forged blanks. CNC mills machine the case from the blank in 50-200 individual operations — each cut programmed from reverse-engineered measurements of the authentic reference. The case is then hand-finished: brushed surfaces are finished with abrasive wheels at controlled RPM; polished surfaces are lapped with progressively finer compound (800 → 1200 → 2000 grit).
Step 2: Bezel Production
Cerachrom-spec bezels are produced by sintering zirconium oxide powder at 1500°C+ in a kiln. The ceramic disc is then CNC-engraved with the 60-minute scale, and platinum or paint is filled into the engravings. Each bezel is individually click-tested for 120 positions.
Step 3: Dial Production
Dials are laser-cut from brass blanks, then lacquered or painted with sunburst/matte finishes. Hour markers are individually applied (glued or pressed). Lume is applied by hand — each marker receives a controlled dose of Super-LumiNova or Chromalight-spec compound.
Step 4: Movement Assembly
Swiss ETA/Sellita or Asian automatic movements are sourced pre-assembled from movement manufacturers. The factory installs the movement into the case, connects the stem, sets the hands, and regulates the timing in 6 positions using a timegrapher.
Step 5: Bracelet Assembly
Bracelet links are individually machined, brushed/polished, and assembled with pins and collars. The clasp mechanism (including Glidelock-style or fold-over) is assembled separately and attached. Each bracelet is tested for link play, clasp security, and overall drape.
Step 6: Quality Control
