What Is the Fluted Motif?
Unlike the Palm Motif (organic palm leaf shapes) or the standard sunburst (smooth radial gradient), the Fluted Motif uses parallel vertical grooves running from 12 to 6 o’clock. Each groove is machine-cut with laser precision, creating a texture visible only at certain angles. Straight-on, the dial reads as a tonal shimmer. At an angle, the grooves cast micro-shadows that add depth and movement.
The name “fluted motif” refers to the visual echo of the fluted bezel — both features use parallel ridges. Rolex deliberately paired this dial with the fluted bezel to create a cohesive design statement. It’s less effective (though still attractive) with the smooth bezel.
